Book Review: Dream Eyes

Dream Eyes by Jayne Ann Krentz

Publication Date: January 8, 2013

Publisher: Putnam Adult

Source: Library

Synopsis (Goodreads): The death of her friend and mentor, Evelyn Ballinger, brings psychic counselor Gwen Frazier back to the small town of Wilby, Oregon, and brings back memories she would rather forget. Two years earlier, a killer stalked the members of one of Ballinger’s research studies including Gwen. And though she survived while two others didn’t,  Gwen knows that Ballinger’s death is related.

Sent by a friend to help Gwen, psychic investigator Judson Coppersmith arrives in Wilby barely in control of his own talent and his own life, haunted by urgent dreams. His attraction to Gwen is primal, but there are secrets he must keep to protect himself from surrendering to her completely, even as their investigation draws them into dreamscapes, into decades of deception, and into the paranormal fires of a desire too strong to resist. . .

Personal Thoughts: One thing I’ve noticed with Jayne Ann Krentz lately is that she does a lot of cross over between her pseudonyms Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick. She goes from the 18th century under one name to the 21st century under another name with the continuation of the same story. It is interesting to see how the story develops over several books. I’ve never seen an author do this before.

I had a great time reading this book  and seeing Judson try to fight his attraction to Gwen. There are a lot of trust issues in this book and it was good seeing how the author made them be resolved in the proper manner. It didn’t happen to early or too late in story. It was fascinating to hear about the mirror machine and how it worked. I loved the connection at the end of the book, which I won’t say here just to not spoil it.

There was a lot of action and adventure throughout the book which kept me on my toes until the end. I was expecting one bad guy but it ended being someone else entirely and I loved the plot twist. 🙂 Great work Jayne.

I heard that she is already working on another book and I can’t wait. I know that it will be a while before there is a title/summary and even longer before it comes out. However I am just happy to know there is more adventure on the way.

Book Review: Twist of Fate

Twist of Fate by Jayne Ann Krentz

Published: March 1, 1991

Publisher: Severn House Publishers

Source: Library

Synopsis (Goodreads): Cloistered as a faculty member at a small college, beautiful Hannah Jessett can almost forget her family heritage. Few know she’s the niece of Elizabeth Nord, the legendary anthropologist who stunned the world with her revolutionary work–until her aunt dies, leaving Hannah in sole possession of her priceless unpublished journals.

But Hannah has other matters to contend with. Her brother’s company is about to be destroyed by Gideon Cage, a wealthy entrepreneur with a notorious reputation in the boardroom… and the bedroom.

When she confronts Gideon, all she sees is a powerful man with a fast smile and soft eyes. Yet before she can catch her breath and really understand this puzzle of a man, her whole world is suddenly threatened: her brother, her aunt’s legacy, her heart–and her life!

Personal Thoughts: I came across this book by accident since it came out quite a while ago. However, since it was by one of my favorite romance contemporary authors I dived right in with no  qualms about whether I would enjoy it or not.

Both Hannah and Gideon were a laugh riot throughout the book with their bickering, playing tug of war and just trying to figure out what each of them wanted. The character development was complete and it made me think of Hannag and Gideon as real people and I was able to relate to them. Krentz writing style was great as always and it made my reading experience great.  Overall I enjoyed reading this book and will continue to read this author. There are always surprises and twist and turns that pop up and intrigue you.

Personal Thoughts: It’s been a while since I have read a Jayne Ann Krentz book and I’m glad that this book is coming out in less than a month. I love the creative worlds that the author creates. There’s a lot of mystery, paranormal scenes, and of course romance! The characters are strong and can fend for themselvse instead of waiting for a male to rescue them (not that that’s a bad thing 😉 ) I know from her past work that I will love this story as well. I’m not a fan of the cover and I wish it was more mysterious. I don’t mind a cover having a human factor but I don’t think it works on this cover. In any case, I have never been one to judge a book by it’s cover and I am not going to stop myself from reading it 🙂
