Music Wednesdays: Still Young by Neon Trees

“Still Young” by Neon Trees

Love is a game that we could play
Even only for today
I don’t wanna lose you
We’ve been apart for far too long
Now we only have a song
Let the music move you
There was a part of me
That never left a part of you
I wish I could be everything you wanted
But I’m still young
Wide-eyed and hopeless
Yeah I’m still young
I want your devotion to this
Can we kiss like we do in my head
Can we dance like we do on my bed
Like we’re still young
Love is a loss that we incur
When we gamble with the world
I don’t wanna lose you
I feel my life has just begun
I can hear you singalong
Now the music in you
There was a part of me
That never left a part of you
I wish I could be everything you wanted
Personal Thoughts: I haven’t done a Music Wednesday in quite a while, and today felt like one of those days that’s calling out to me. This song just invokes so much emotion within me. Although this song is about love, it reminds me about so many other things in my life. It makes me remember the times that weren’t as real as they are these days. Mind you, the world is always real, but the ability to escape for a while or just pretend sometimes that it’s not real is what is missing.

I miss the times that I could dream about so many things and attempting to accomplish them. Nowadays it is so much harder to go after what you want. It is not for a lack of passion, but maybe it is out of fear, the reality surrounding me or something else entirely.

They say that we are usually our own worst enemies and we prevent ourselves from becoming the best that we can. Is it true? In some ways it is and in other it is not. There have been obstacles where I almost broke down and didn’t want to keep going, yet after a bit of time, I said enough is enough and got back on my feet. At other times, you just don’t want to get back up even though you know that you have to.

My question to everyone is: When you have been beaten in trying to achieve a dream/a goal, where do you get your inspiration to get back on your feet and keep fighting?

Music Wednesdays: Following the Sun by Enigma

Following the Sun by Enigma

Following the sun, to find the one
Who’s given you the wings to fly
Following the sun, the golden one
Losing sense for space and time

I’m following the sun
To find the one who
Can feel the waves of life
Can you hear the sigh of love
Do you believe in it?

Following the sun, just for the one
Till you find the door you thought
Following the sun, like everyone
Just searching for a sign of hope

I’m following the sun
To find the one and look
up in the sky, see the billion stars above.
Cause maybe on one of them you’ll spend
your further life.

I’ve been a fan of Enigma for the longest time, however, it has only been recently that I came across this song by them.  Interestingly enough, it was already on my ipod, but I never ran across it when I shuffled the songs. This isn’t the first time that it has happened and it makes me wonder whether the song shows up just when you need it. What I mean by that is:  either something significant might be happening in your life, the mood that you are in or something that needs to be done and by listening to a particular song, it happens or vice versa.

This song is peaceful and it soothes, but it also inspires. Awhile back when I was first listening to it, I just started writing and didn’t stop until two or three hours later. I looked up and realized that the time flew by because I was so lost in the world that I was writing about. Very few songs are able to do that to me and this is one of those songs. It might have lyrics, but they do not get in the way of your thought processes, your thinking and living in the world that you are creating.

Do you have moments where something just stands out, when before it was right in front of you, but you did not notice it?

Music Wednesday- Rise Up by Yves LaRock

Rise Up by LaRock

My dream is to fly
Over the rainbow so high
My dream is to fly
Over the rainbow so high
My dream is to fly
Over the rainbow so high
My dream is to fly
Over the rainbow so high

Rise Up
don’t falling down again
Rise Up
long time I broke Its chains.
I try to fly a while so high
direction sky
I try to fly a while so high
direction sky

Today’s song is an inspirational song, at least it is for me. The lyrics encourage you to keep on trying and even if you fall down, to get back up and try again. The beat and the rhythm make is great to listen to, and gives you energy. The beat gives you that extra energy to push yourself further, whether it’s running, doing different exercises or just roller blading. It just makes you want to get up and dance or run away. 🙂

There are days when I need cheering up, or to be pushed or just to enjoy the moment. This song is a great one for those kinds of things. There is no way that you can be sad once you are done listening to it. This song reminds me of the things I have worked for so hard in the past and when I accomplished them, it was like a new beginning. I felt empowered to do anything no matter how small or big. I am also reminded every time that there are still a lot of things that I have not yet accomplished due to lack of time, money or some other reason. I will persevere and try to get them done sooner rather than later. It might take  me a few days or weeks, but the important thing is to complete them. The knowledge of having your dreams realized is a powerful thing. It will keep knocking on your door (within your subconscious) and reminding you to get it done.

We all have dreams that have not yet been realized or put to the side due to circumstances. Take them out and get started!

Music Wednesday: Numb by Linkin Park

Numb by Linkin Park

I’m tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface
I don’t know what you’re expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes

(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)

I’ve become so numb I can’t feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I’m becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you

For the first post of Music Wednesdays I’ve decided to choose Numb by Linkin Park. They aren’t exactly pleasant lyrics, as you can tell by the short piece I’ve included above. However, back when I was in middle and high school they sure did help me out a lot. By the time I reached highschool I’ve already lived in three countries. Moving is hard enough when you know the language, but when you move and are still a small child and don’t know the language it becomes twice as hard. Making friends  was even harder at the time because everyone looked at me and thought ‘oh look there’s the foreigner’. Things got a little easier when I finally knew the English language but not by much.

Try fitting in somewhere when you know that the majority of the people have known each other since kindergarten.  Not easy. You could play with them at gym or talk to them in art class, but when that final bell rang, everyone would go off in their packs. The same thing would happen at lunch time,  everyone would already have their designated seating, so by the time I got there, I would have  a table all to myself, or have a big group scootch to the other end of the long table.

In these lonely times, I ended up listening to music that knew what I was feeling and that helped me get out of the dark hole. This particular song inspired some of my best poetry that I have written. It is dark, sad but captures exactly what I’m feeling. I still remember a time when I submitted a piece of poetry for a contest and the reply that I got back was strange. I was told that my poetry was too depressing and that if I was suffering from depression I should seek out help. Ha. Typical response. Although I can now see that she was concerned.

As I look back, I can see that those dark days have made me a stronger person and built my character. I still get my fair share of dark days, some worse than others, but I know that they will pass and the sun will come out soon enough.

Music Wednesdays

Starting next Wednesday, I’ll be doing a post every Wednesday on music. Next to books, music has had quite a significant impact on me and my life. I’ll mention what I am listening to and what memory it sparks or how it makes me feel or some other little tid bit. Feel free to share your own music memories or interesting little tidbit.

It’s fascinating how a memory that we buried deep inside ourselves can be dug up with a song. In an instant we are taken back to a time where that memory first happened. We could have been 2 or 22, but we remember like it was yesterday.

See you on Wednesday for the first memory trigger. 🙂
